Bowling... and other stuff

So here it is 2:45 AM and I just finished up my homework for the coming day... yeah yeah same old, same old. Funny thing is I just finished writing up an assignment on procrastination haha...

So anyway what I really want to write about is bowling Friday night :)
It was a dark and stormy night (this is pronounced breathtakingly wonderful winter scene and tremendous driving fun) and Annie and I had to do a little persuading to drag Lindsay along since she wanted to get some sleep in order to get a head start on homework Saturday (imagine that!...). We arrived just before 11pm, and found several other Houghton students were already there. The three of us decided to join Chris Cole and Chris Morris on a lane and we quickly got down to business.... sorta. The music was loud, the black lights were on, and everyone was just having to much fun to even care about bowling scores... well mostly. (I am in a sarcastic/funny mood right now can you tell) Second frame of the first game I had two gutter balls. First frame of the second game I had two gutter balls. Both games I had over 100. Third game was cut short for lack of time but I had 94 in the 8th frame. So not a bad night for me. All 5 of us did decent actually, with the low score first game being 88 and second game low score was 96, with none of us pro bowlers or all that concerned about getting good scores. The trip home was a bit slow because of 2 inches of fresh snow since we had arrived... and the fact another car was in front of us driving slower because of the conditions (imagine that!...). I really should get over my impatience on the road... but anyway with such wonderful conditions I could not resist some late night sliding fun in Fire Hall when we got back hehe.... I would zoom down an alley 25 or 30 miles an hour and then at the empty end of the lot spin the wheel and grab the ebrake... zoom back the other way and do it again... throw it in reverse get up to speed and whip the wheel/stomp on the brake for a 180 the other direction... then mix it up with a few wildly careening S curves on the carless side of the lot... Needless to say, I had a grin a mile wide plastered to my face and Lindsay was enjoying the experience nearly as much as I was. Annie did not seem to enjoy this quite so much so I cut short the fun to bring the girls back up to Gillette... where Lindsay refused to get out of the car and Annie refastened her seatbelt after discovering there was a lack of motivation amongst us to go to bed lol. So back down to Fire Hall for more crazy driving :)

Water Polo

I am immensly enjoying Houghton's intramural water polo. The only damper on the fun is our record. Our team is now 0 and 4 ... sigh... I have decided to quit keeping score as it is only getting more depressing each time... we had a particularly good routing tonight loosing 13 to 1 ... total points for the season we have let in 33 and only scored 6... oh right I was gonna stop keeping score! But really it is a good time :)

More updates soon I promise Chloe ;)

Where is the snow?!

This post is dedicated to Chloe - without her constant pestering this probably would not be here right now :-D

What happened to winter in the northeast? When I got home for Christmas break there were only patches of snow on the ground at my house in northern VT! This is unheard of in mid December and it made me very depressed since I was looking forward to some good skiing over break... but nope, we had a green (or should I say brown?) Christmas. Then the day after Christmas we had a few inches of slushy snow... enough to send my brother Seth and our old red mazda into the ditch on its roof... oops! ... then Saturday following we had about 4 inches of that good soft fluffy powder which made me very happy... and on Wednesday the 3rd I finally went skiing with my brother and my friend Lindsay and her brother Josh and her friend Ryan. We went up to Jay peak which had some very good conditions and had nearly all of its trails were skiable even tho supposedly half of them were closed... haha who pays attention to those signs anyway? Well I was glad we went when we did because Friday another warm spell hit... 50 plus degrees in early January?! what happened? and holy cow talk about POURING rain... bye bye snow :( .... here at Houghton there was no snow when I got here Sunday but then a blizzard Monday (which I got to drive through hehe) and more snow Tuesday night left us with a good covering until Thursday when it went and got warm again... Humph. I don't care about all you Floridians, I want COLD and SNOW... LOTS OF IT!!!

Randomness

Monday saw the arrival of my friend Joel Tate from VT! I had no idea he was coming until I was walking down the hall towards my room after night class and I heard a familiar voice speaking. No way I thought, but yep there he was :) Joel was my campus minister back at CSJ freshman year and together with his brother Job, was instrumental in getting me to come to Houghton.

Tuesday I had an exam in financial accounting which I felt very unsure about but ended up doing reasonably well in. I ended up with a 94 after the curve which wasn't too far off of my back to back 99s after the curve on the first two. I currently have a 98 average in the class so I don't think I have to worry at this point in the semester lol.

Wednesday I felt like hugging Dr. Black since he allowed us to put off our third test until Friday. I don't care what anyone says that man is one of my favorite profs ever.

Thursday was pretty much boring and nothing to report other than severe procrastination (like usual) on my studies for said test on Friday. I was up till 3 when I should easily have been done by midnight... ah well.

and Today I was up at 7 to finish studying for the test. Yuck. Oh well, my studying did pay off and I am confident of a reasonable grade on the test. Joel left today and I was sorry to see him go since we had had a few good conversations over meals. 2 hour nap after class then supper... now I'm feeling like going to bed...

Update

Wow it has been a long time since I updated this... Well here are some highlights from the past week: Tuesday my family visited me on their fall vacation, which was a nice break from school work. I introduced them to several of my friends here at Houghton and had a nice lunch in the cafeteria. Then we went to see Letchworth (third time for me now!) and saw the waterfalls... It was a nice warm day with only a few sprinkles in the air, it is such a gorgeous place to be. After that, we went down to the Cuba Cheese Shoppe in Cuba and bought some excellent cheese - I got some New York Cheddar that was aged 5 whole years - mmmm boy is that stuff good!

Thursday was the Jars of Clay concert, which was totally awesome! I need to get some of their CDs now because wow, I have been missing out (yeah I didn't have any cash on me that night to buy one there). They played for a good 2 hours after the introductory bands were finished, which was a full hour. The music actually was at a bearable decible level, which was also very nice. Steve also came to visit again so it was good to see him as well.

Friday night was a "mission impossible" capture the flag game with the local youth for christ and I got to be a cameraman :) Flour bombs were flying everywhere and a few kids even managed to find a good and deep waterhole in the dark lol. A good time was had by all, and 4 kids actually managed to get all 5 bracelets from each of the flags. At 10:00, Mission Impossible III played in the chapel, which was a very good, but very intense movie for those of you who haven't seen it.

Well thats it for now, I need to get some sleep.

I wouldn't mind this in my stocking! Sweet gun, crazy footage.

Sleep

Wow. I think I lost the ability to be tired. I'm not quite sure why. It all started one dark and stormy Thursday night long ago.... Ok it was last Thursday and while it was dark it wasn't stormy that I recall. Anyhow, Since I knew I only had one class to make on Friday and that the weekend was coming right after, I figured I would procrastinate on my homework for most of the night... I finally went to bed at 5:20am and got up a little more than 3 hours later. Well, I was wide awake in class. I was wide awake in chapel. I was wide awake when changing my oil. And I barely managed to squeeze in 30 minutes of sleep during a 2 hour block of time I reserved for a nap before supper. After supper I was planning on going to bed after a short time of internet surfing. Well, I just never got tired! 1 am came and I figured I should really go to bed. But I was still so awake it took me another hour to fall asleep! Then I woke up at 11:30. I never wake up that early on Saturday mornings. Never. Especially after 3 hours of sleep the previous night. Then, all day Saturday, I'm wide awake. Went to bed at 2:30 Saturday night (1:30 actually because of the time change) and was wide awake next morning at 9:30 (a full half hour before my alarm went off!) and I have been wide awake ever since. This, when I used to sleep 12 hours at a time no problem. And used to be tired all day long after a short night. Very interesting. But, I'm not gonna complain! :)

Badnarik

So its a bit dated... but its a good way for those of you who *ahem* don't like to read to learn about the libertarian party... btw, if you live in Texas, he's running for congress this year. Also check out libertarian tv on the web.

Well I'm not sure whether to laugh, cry, or scream! But I suppose it does go to show how respected libertarians are becoming when a candidate will outright lie to try and make himself appealing to libertarians... too bad we aren't so easily fooled!
